Abstract:Profiles Paul B. Latshaw, superintendent of Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, New York. Highlights course preparations for the 85th Professional Golfers' Association (PGA) Championship. Describes the golf course and the renovations made to it for the tournament, stating that "under the direction of architect Tom Fazio, nine tees were built to stretch the East Course an additional 230 yards, and 78 bunkers were rebuilt to achieve improved strategic placement and harsher consequences. The fairways were re-contoured and narrowed." Discusses the challenges that Latshaw and his crew have faced, explaining that "the course was hit by 140 inches of snow and two ice storms...[in] winter [2002]." Discusses what Latshaw has learned from preparing for the event, stating that "the PGA is probably the most difficult major to prepare for as far as timing goes with the turf."
