Abstract:Article relates the construction of a private golf course at Wachesaw Plantation in Murrells Inlet, SC. Despite the problems of both hurricanes and drought, the course was established with Tifdwarf on the greens, Tifway II on the fairways, and centipedegrass on the roughs. Lovegrass covers the slopes and crowns of numerous berms. The course, designed by Tom Fazio, is a spectacular combination of undulating narrow fairways, steep mounds covered with wild lovegrass, strategically-placed grass and sand bunkers and trees everywhere reminiscent of the Scottish-links style. Pump and irrigation systems include a wall-to-wall Toro system with a PSI pump station designed to water the priority turf during a drought. There is also an extensive drainage system as the area is known for heavy seasonal downpours.
